ART X SCIENCE Conversations II: Telling Better Climate Change Stories
April 14th | 18:00 CET | Online
Welcome to Art x Science Conversations, a collaborative initiative by Emerging Creatives of Science (ECOS) and The Experimentalist, two creative science communication platforms on a mission to make science more accessible, engaging and fun. This webinar series brings together the science communicators to explore topics at the intersection of art and science, discussing key challenges and innovative solutions. The insights from these conversations are then transformed into public-facing content, including a podcast on Spotify, blog articles, and social media posts, ensuring that the knowledge and ideas generated reach a broader audience.

Building on our ongoing discussion about the most pressing and unresolved challenges in science today, we are once again bringing together creative minds to explore innovative solutions; this time, to craft more compelling Climate Change Stories.
π Webinar Date: Monday, April 14th, 2025
β° Time: 21:30 IST | 18:00 CET | 12:00 ET | 9:00 PT
Webinar Focus: How to tell better stories about climate change? π
A month ago, Anurag Srivastava gathered personal stories and research from across the world for the ECOS blog, highlighting both the subtle and devastating impacts of our shifting climate. Stories from Japan, Spain, Panama, Russia, and the USA shared insights on the evolving consequences of climate change around the globe.
We welcome these storytellers not only to present their personal climate stories but also to collaborate in brainstorming creative ways to amplify climate consciousness and drive meaningful action.
Meet the Storytellers ποΈ
Anjleen Hannak is a certified scientific diver and a marine biologist studying coral conservation in the Indian Ocean.
Ian Cooke-Tapia is a writer, illustrator, and Creative Director at Cooked Illustrations. His interest lies in how stories that incorporate both effective and emotionally engaging visuals enhance place-based learning.
Elena Poritskaia is a science graphic designer and illustrator.
Sonia Guarnerio is a cell and molecular biologist and a scientific Illustrator.
Paula Croxson is a neuroscientist, storyteller and award-winning science communicator. She is President at Stellate Communications and a Senior Producer at The Story Collider.
Why Does This Conversation Matter? π€π
We often associate climate change with catastrophic events: floods, droughts, wildfires, extreme heat waves, etc. Constant exposure to such disastrous news can lead to desensitization, making people feel emotionally detached. People may start believing that climate change is a distant problem affecting only certain parts of the world, and might not pose any immediate threat to them.
However, these events are real and devastating! And they are happening all around us, even on more subtle levels. To draw attention to all the ways climate change is affecting us, understand the consequences impacting our neighborhoods, and drive effective and collective solutions, we need more human-centered stories.
Through this webinar, we will explore the often-overlooked, subtle impacts of climate change. As a community of scientists, science communicators, and artists, we believe it's equally important to highlight stories of resilience, grassroots solutions, and initiatives that have made a meaningful difference.
How to Participate? π₯
We encourage everyone interested in the intersection of art, science, and policy to join us for this interactive webinar. This conversation is a space to share, learn, and develop strategies that can lead to meaningful change.

Emerging Creatives of Science (ECOS) is an international community of scientists, artists and storytellers collaboratively communicating science in engaging ways. From scientific illustrators, poets, performance artists and more, each member has creative talents and a background in science, either from their education or from their multiple years of experience working with scientists. We get science, and we know how to inject creativity into the communication of it to make it more inclusive and welcoming.
The Experimentalist is a media platform where science meets storytelling. We feature scientists sharing their behind-the-discovery stories and academic journeys, cover global outreach activities, and foster discussions on key scientific issues. Our workshops equip scientists with creative techniques inspired by artists, transforming them into captivating and effective communicators.
